Poor Saturn Ion. It was unjustly maligned early on and then dumped before it got the full measure of lovin' it really needed. It's a good car. My favorite car that I've ever owned and it's just hard to beat the price for the features when shopping for a used car.
I'm on my second Ion2 because some jack@ss rear ended my first one and totaled it. :(
O.K. ... I too am ticked about Saturn's dropping the ION.
The Astra shows promise, but it's hardly an attractive vehicle.
In 1967 I owned an Opel Kadette ... GREAT CAR ... marvelous (award winning) engine design.
38 horses, 36.5 mpg, no problem traveling the Interstate at 90-95 mph, easy maintenance, decent design.
I have every conviction that the (Opel) Astra is absolutely NOTHING like it.
And I will so miss the center-mounted instrumentation of the ION (what a great concept ... now lost).
The whole fiasco reminds me of that other great car, the Tucker ... now only a museum memory.
